I love New York

July 3, 2007

It truly is the greatest city in the world. Where else can you see the Transformers movie before it even opens? That’s right, I saw a 10:30pm screening of Transformers tonight (um, last night? It is 2am…) in Times Square. Where better to see such a film, right? And well, I’m not going to spoil it for anyone. Let’s just say it’s nothing if not enjoyable.

Anyway, my favorite part of the movie had to be the scene that took place in the theater between the crippled amputee and the Asian man sitting behind him. I didn’t see how it started, but I gathered that someone was (allegedly) kicking the cripple’s seat (there were also 2 young children sitting nearby) and suddenly the cripple starts screaming and cursing at the Asian man behind him. Said man is trying to calm him down, but the cripple keeps dropping f-bombs and screaming. It calms down, and then 5 minutes later, someone kicked his seat again. Cripple goes apeshit, screaming at the man, calling him a “Chinese f-ker,” (mind you, in front of children and during a big action sequence). The Asian man asks him to sit down, which only makes matters worse. Then people in rows behind us start yelling at the cripple, which makes him angry so he stands up, cursing and yelling and waving his cane! I have never seen anything like that in my life. Other than that, there was a great crowd which made the movie fun to watch (even the instant-recap man who sat next to my sister and repeated every line from the movie while laughing and commenting -oh no you didn’t!). Some movies are only meant to be viewed in Times Square.
